The Plan carried out in the unhealthy and oppressed Barcelona in the 19th century is considered a pioneering project in the evolution of modern urbanism.
Around the wall that was stoping to the growth of the irregular medieval city, Cerdà designed a grid of octagonal blocks with a powerful diagonal that crossed it and large avenues.
